The election watchdog Comfrel has issued a new app that will help voters monitor the work of lawmakers.
The “Cambodian Voters Voice” app allows constituents to evaluate, rate and comment on the performance of parliamentarians.
It also includes general information on the National Assembly and Senate, elections and other political activities.
Korn Savang, a Comfrel official, said the app is a useful tool and reminder that Voting Day is just the beginning for elected officials. “This app allows voters to keep their eyes on the representatives they voted for,” he said. “It also tells what those parliamentarians have done for their people.”
Yim Sovann, a spokesman for the Cambodia National Rescue Party, said the party supports the use of the app as a way for people to connect with their representatives. “So we can know what people need and we can respond to them accordingly.”
Sok Eysan, a spokesman for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party agreed, saying the app would be useful as a way to share information between voters and elected officials.
The app is now available to the public, but it remains to be seen how widespread it will become in Cambodia, where technological literacy remains low.
