Rights advocates say 2012 was Cambodia's worst year on record for protecting basic human rights and freedoms. The shooting injuries of three women at a garment protest in Svay Rieng, the murder of an environmental activist in Koh Kong and the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in Kratie province all contributed, as did the jailing or beating of journalists, rights advocates and activists.
