Five Cambodian high school students and one teacher from Kampong Chhnang province have been selected to participate in the State Department’s Youth Leadership Program this year.
The 25-day program is designed to promote leadership and community engagement for future leaders of Asean.
At the Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, the group will explore principles of leadership, attend workshops and design a projects for Cambodia they will implement on their return.
This year, 24 students and teachers from five Asean countries, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, participated.
The Cambodian group will develop a project for Kampong Chhnang province to help protect the environment.
In a recent interview with VOA Khmer, the teacher, Nget Sokheng, said the program is useful.
“If it continues, the program will train many leaders in Cambodia,” Nget Sokheng said.
