PHNOM PENH —
Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday lashed out at the opposition in a public speech broadcast on TV, saying that if the Cambodia National Rescue Party wins the election, the country will devolve into war and a period not unlike the Khmer Rouge regime.
The premier made his statements during a speech in the coastal municipality of Kep. Hun Sen has begun regularly denouncing the opposition on the airwaves, with July’s national election approaching.
Critics say Hun Sen and the ruling party greatly benefit from a near monopoly on broadcast media in the country, giving them an unfair advantage during election periods.
